Cortlandt

The Town of Cortlandt is residential in nature and includes the villages of Croton-on-Hudson and Buchanan as well as several hamlets: Verplanck, Montrose, Crugers, Crompond, Mohegan Lake, Toddville and Van Cortlandtville. Notable attractions are the Route 6 commercial corridor and abundant recreational open spaces.

Your Beyond-Perfect Day in Cortlandt:

Begin with breakfast: Start the day in Cortlandt Manor with breakfast at Brightside Delicatessan or brunch at Savannah & Company; Sunday Champagne Brunch Buffet returns in September at Cortlandt Colonial Restaurant & Ballroom.

Stroll the farmers market: Sunday visitors can shop the year-round Market on the River in Verplanck.

Enjoy the waterfront:  Cortlandt Waterfront Park in Verplanck is a perfect place to spend a weekend morning, with a riverfront pedestrian trail, fishing pier, great lawn and aviation-themed playground.

Break for lunch: You’ll find an abundance of lunch spots in Cortlandt’s villages and hamlets. A few favorites:  Little Cabin Sandwich Shop Inc.  in Cortlandt Manor and Westbrook Brick Oven Pizzeria and Marcello’s Pizza & Deli in Verplanck.

Take a hike: Wildlife enthusiasts have plenty of options for an afternoon surrounded by nature. The Jane E. Lytle Arboretum in Croton-on-Hudson offers walking trails through 22 acres of woods and wetlands. Trails through the 352-acre Hudson Highlands Gateway Park in the Town of Cortlandt follow woodlands, streams, steep slopes, exposed bedrock and meadows. For a shorter hike, Cortlandt is also home to the three-quarter-mile Hollow Brook Trail.

You’ve earned a treat: Next, sample the goods at one of two sweet shops in Croton-on-Hudson (we won’t tell if you try both!): The Dessertist, known for its edible cookie dough, or Baked by Susan for pies, tarts, cupcakes and vegan/gluten-free banana chocolate chip bread.

End with dinner: Stay in Croton-on-Hudson for dinner at Yuka’s Latin Fusion or, for Italian fare, head to Paradise Restaurant in Verplanck or Pizzeria Baci in Montrose. Another excellent choice: Cortlandt Manor and My Second House for Mexican cuisine and a tequila drink to toast your beyond-perfect day.

Stay longer: Extend your getaway with a hotel stay.
