Or, visit the 400-acre Leon Levy Preserve and explore the ruins of the Black Mansion, stroll the native plant garden and hike the Gorge Overlook Trail.

Dinner time: Savor a memorable dining experience, lovely views and a historic setting with an outdoor table at The Horse and Hound Inn, a stagecoach stop dating back to 1749 in South Salem. Two more excellent choices: One Twenty Three Restaurant and Bar in Vista for superb Italian and American fare and the family-friendly Bacio Trattoria in Cross River.
