Groundwork Hudson Valley Science Barge

The Science Barge, owned and operated by Groundworks Hudson Valley, is a self-powered, off-the-grid floating greenhouse, serving as an environmental education classroom.  Open to the public on weekends for the public to come on board and hosting school groups during the week, the hands-on-educational programs provide children and adults the opportunity to learn about urban ecology, renewable energy and the unique ecosystem of the Hudson River.   Additionally, the green house demonstrates how growing fruits and vegetables are possible without the use of soil in an urban setting while using no pesticides and producing no carbon emissions.   Within walking distance of the Yonkers Metro-North railroad station.   Hours of Operation:  Saturday & Sunday Noon - 6 pm from mid-April through early November.  Weekly market selling produce grown on the Science Barge on Thursdays, from 4 - 6:30 pm.  Suggested donation to visit: $5
