Paris is burning

Paris Is Burning

June 21, 8:00 p.m.

This Sundance prize-winning documentary provides a vibrant snapshot of the 1980s through the eyes of New York City’s African American and Latinx Harlem drag ball scene. Made over the course of seven years, Paris Is Burning offers an intimate portrait of rival fashion “houses,” from fierce contests for trophies to house mothers offering sustenance in a world rampant with homophobia, transphobia, racism, AIDS, and poverty. This June, NYC is hosting WorldPride to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising during Pride Month. The JBFC invites all to celebrate with this iconic documentary, considered a staple of queer cinema.
